TORCC has scheduled two trail days this fall.

On Sunday October 21st, TORCC will be coordinating work on the entrance to Physiotherapy. This trail is an excellent climbing trail that leads to the upper reaches of Eagle Mountain. Much of the trail has already been constructed by volunteer effort (including a number of TORCC trail days), however, the entrance has only been roughed in. We hope to finish Physio's entrance on this trail day.

We will be meeting at Noons Creek Park at the corner of Panorama Drive and Stoneridge Drive at 9am . Lunch will be provided.
Cap's Westwood Cycle will be providing volunteer support and draw prizes for the trail day. Kintec Suterbrook Village, Port Moody will be providing draw prizes for this trail day.

But keep reading...

On Saturday November 3rd, TORCC will be partnering with the City of Port Moody to continue to rehabilitate a section of the "Backyard Trail". This trail is an important connector for walkers and mountain bikers as it connects Bert Flinn Park with the Ioco Road/Shoreline Park area. For the majority of its run, it parallels Parkside Drive. It is identified as the red trail on this map. This trail is beginning to show deterioration in parts and some rerouting is necessary in other areas. TORCC is working in partnership with the City of Port Moody to build upon the work done on the previous trail day and improve the conditions of this trail for all users.

We will be meeting at the trail entrance across from 146 Parkside Drive (click here for a map of the exact location) at 9am. Lunch will be provided.

A big thank you goes to our sponsors for the day:
Secret Cycles (Coquitlam) will be providing volunteer support and draw prizes for the trail day. Kintec Suterbrook Village, Port Moody will be providing draw prizes for this trail day. City of Port Moody who provided supervision, labour, materials, and helped make this day possible.

Vanier Park Cyclocross 2012 - Report, results and photos

October 03, 2012, Vancouver, BC - The 2012 Vanier Park Cyclocross in Vancouver, BC, was a roaring success. Vanier Park racing is known to have the blessing from above but this year the weather was crazy sunny - unlike anything we have seen before. And so was the turnout: the event had at times the flavor of an open air concert with people sitting around on the grass eating and watching the race, kids laughing and riding around and lots of women and men with big sweaty smiles- on track to a great result.

The volunteer crew from WestCoast Racing and TREK RedTruck Racing created a course that revealed years of hands-on experience and made sure that legs and lungs would hurt. Less bumpy but with tricky loose ground sections, the course demanded full attention through the high speed turns and over the challenging man-made obstacles.

Hey folks, it's about time if you haven't done it already: time to dust off the cross bike, check the tubies and see if you can still fit into that skinsuit. If it's tight you are not alone ... The endless summer of 2012 makes it hard to believe that we will get our lungs ripped out in the next few months. Cyclocross is back - the best way to suffer yourself into shape.

Well, we didn't just sit on the beach and enjoy the summer. We worked hard to bring back one of the oldest and popular cross races in the Lower Mainland, the Vanier Park Cyclcross. This year we have a number of great new sponsors and some tasty support for our event. Also you'll get what you love and expect from us: the Free Kids' Race thanks to Steed Cycles and the Neutral Race Support from the Vancouver Bike Gallery. In other words you should ride out here because you don't need to bring your spare wheels. Also new is our Single Speed category, which is ... well, you're welcome.

2012 Vanier Park Cyclocross is proud to offer you a taste of the homeland of cross with real Belgian Waffles, thanks to Olivier and Penny Lebeau from Patisserie Lebeau. Those waffles are absolutely delicious, very nutritious and worth all the sweat and pain when you are racing in Vanier Park. They are reason enough to come early to the park ... and you can grab some coffee, too.
The other sponsor is Vancouver's very own (!) outdoor cooperative MEC who is really making us, the members, go outside and do the right thing while having lots of fun on the water, in the snow and on the trails and mountains.
Last but not least is CLIF Bar, the long time cyclocross sponsor and bike racing supporter with Luna Bar and many other flavors. Maybe some of the CLIF race team is showing up?

So be prepared for all the weather, enjoy a few warm-up races and rides and get ready for the double header weekend of SuperCross in Vancouver with the New Brighton and Vanier Park races.

Thanks and check out the Vanier Park Cyclocross 2012 page.
