In the spirit of Easter, we at West Coast Cycling got together and decided that we too should get into the game of bringing stuff back from the dead, so we're bringing the Cardiac Classic back to life. With a brand new course layout and a Marathon format, it should prove nothing short of a revelation. We're putting the 'fun' back in 'funeral': where the old Cardiac was a killer, Cardiac 2.0 is going to be a miraculously good time, with race options to suit everyone, from angelic to evil.
For those who just didn't enjoy the self-flagellation of racing up the steepest trails on Burnaby Mountain repeatedly over the span of a race, we're going to have a short course option. For the rest who still like the taste of blood, you can still enjoy the downright religious experience of grinding up those climbs as many times as you like.
Sunday, July 14th 2013: grass-roots racing returns to Burnaby Mountain. It's going to be biblical. |

West Coast Cycling is the new name chosen by the Board of Directors and approved at a special general meeting in the spring of 2012.
The new name is really the only change you can expect out of our club. Some will find the new name less intimidating than West Coast RACING while others may have enjoyed being part of a RACING club. Our sincere hope is that at the end of the day the name doesn't really matter so much. What should matter is that our club, WCC, provides members with a chance to meet other riders, train, race and feel supported by generous coaches and sponsors.
We also believe you should join other clubs and have priced our membership accordingly. Cycling is an inclusive sport best enjoyed with your buddies ripping around the trails or hitting the roads around the lower mainlaind. We provide all this in a casual and fun environment.

West Coast Cycling has always considered itself a good community partner. We enjoy organizing events that communities can get behind. We also like to give back in other ways too. Recently we became aware of a cause called Bikes for Tykes, spearheaded by James Wilson, Owner of Obsession Bikes. If you aren't familiar with James or Obsession, they are a passionate bike shop located on Lonsdale avenue in North Vancouver. We met up with James tonight to get more of an in depth look into the workings of this great cause. WOW, were we blown away at the operation James has running out of Obsession. James and the Obsession crew act as coordinators, mechanics, bike procurement gurus and accessory guys to ensure that those less fortunate have a 2 wheel steed to ride around. Partnering with local charitable organizations on the North Shore helps to identify the recipients. As the program grows so to does the list of beneficiaries. Needless to say we are thrilled to be donating $500 from WCC to this very worthwhile cause. The real success for Bikes for Tykes would be that other shops around the lower mainland take this initiative on. If anyone is interested and feelling a little philanthropic give James at Obsession a call and start doing some real good for your community. |

TORCC has scheduled two trail days this fall.
On Sunday October 21st, TORCC will be coordinating work on the entrance to Physiotherapy. This trail is an excellent climbing trail that leads to the upper reaches of Eagle Mountain. Much of the trail has already been constructed by volunteer effort (including a number of TORCC trail days), however, the entrance has only been roughed in. We hope to finish Physio's entrance on this trail day.
We will be meeting at Noons Creek Park at the corner of Panorama Drive and Stoneridge Drive at 9am . Lunch will be provided.

Cap's Westwood Cycle will be providing volunteer support and draw prizes for the trail day. |
Kintec Suterbrook Village, Port Moody will be providing draw prizes for this trail day. |
But keep reading...
On Saturday November 3rd, TORCC will be partnering with the City of Port Moody to continue to rehabilitate a section of the "Backyard Trail". This trail is an important connector for walkers and mountain bikers as it connects Bert Flinn Park with the Ioco Road/Shoreline Park area. For the majority of its run, it parallels Parkside Drive. It is identified as the red trail on this map. This trail is beginning to show deterioration in parts and some rerouting is necessary in other areas. TORCC is working in partnership with the City of Port Moody to build upon the work done on the previous trail day and improve the conditions of this trail for all users.
A big thank you goes to our sponsors for the day:
